Materials
Bairn places the utmost importance on choosing products made with safer, healthier materials. We carefully select organic, natural and non-toxic products while avoiding ingredients and materials of concern.
Toys
We select toys made from wood with natural dyes, rubber, organic cotton or silicone, without BPA, PVC or phthalates.
Home
We select furniture without added formaldehyde or toxic glues and prioritize low-VOC materials.
Gear
We select car seats & strollers without brominated or halogenated flame retardants.
Sleep
We select mattresses & bedding with natural and organic fibers without flame retardants or pesticides.
OEKO-TEX
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification means that the product has been independently tested and proven safe from harmful levels of over 1,000 toxic chemicals
GOTS Certified
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): Focuses on sourcing and sustainability. Requiring at least 95% organic fibers, and fair labor practices for workers
Greenguard Gold Certified
GREENGUARD Gold is an independent, third-party safety standard that verifies a product has extremely low volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions.
Greenguard Certified
GREENGUARD certification is a third-party verification that proves a product meets strict limits for low chemical emissions (VOCs) into indoor air
GOLS Certified
GOLS certified latex means the material is made from at least 95% organically grown natural rubber latex and has met strict environmental, safety, and labor standards from farm to finish.
PFAS Free
PFAS free means a product is made without the intentional addition of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a large family of man-made chemicals known as "forever chemicals"
Low VOC
"Low VOC" means a product contains a reduced amount of volatile organic compounds, which are carbon-based chemicals that turn into gases at room temperature and release into the air
Organic Content
Organic clothing means the garment is made entirely from natural fibers grown without harmful synthetic chemicals, toxic pesticides, or genetically modified materials
Fire Retardant Free
Fire retardant-free means that a product is manufactured without the use synthetic fire retardant chemicals
No Added Fire Retardant
No added fire retardant means a product is manufactured without the addition of synthetic fire retardant chemicals
Low EMF
Low EMF products are designed to emit lower levels of electromagnetic fields (EMF) than standard versions of the same item
CentiPUR-US
CertiPUR-US means that polyurethane foam inside a product has been independently tested and verified to meet strict standards
Paraben Free
A paraben-free product does not contain synthetic chemicals called parabens. Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen and disrupt the endocrine system, plus some people experience allergic reactions or severe skin irritation.
BPA Free
BPA-free means a product was manufactured without using Bisphenol A, a chemical used to make hard plastics. BPA acts as an endocrine disruptor, meaning it can mimic hormones like estrogen and interfere with natural body functions.
Sulphate Free
Sulfate-free means a product is made without harsh detergent chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). Sulfates can strip away too much natural oil from your children's skin, leading to dryness, and skin irritation.
Phthalate Free
Phthalate-free means a product was manufactured without phthalates, which are synthetic chemicals added to plastics. Phthalates are known hormone disruptors and high or prolonged exposure can lead to reproductive and developmental issues.
No Added Formaldehyde
No added formaldehyde product certification means an independent third party has verified that a product—usually composite wood, furniture, or building materials—was manufactured without using formaldehyde-based resins or glues
MADE SAFE
MADE SAFE® is an independent, non-profit product certification program that verifies everyday items are made with safe ingredients (over 15,000 banned) without known hazards to human health or the ecosystem
Wool
Natural wool is a textile fiber obtained from the fleece of sheep or other animals (like goats or rabbits) that contains no synthetic or man-made plastic blends such as petroleum-based polyester and acrylic
Linen
A linen product is an item made from the natural fibers of the flax plant, or a textile traditionally associated with these materials, which is less harsh or irritating to skin relative to synthetically derived materials.
Ethical Production
At Bairn, we also care about the values of our partner brands. Have they produced their products ethically? We seek out partners that treat their employees, customers, and suppliers fairly and equitably. This includes fair wages, safe working conditions, and ethical supply chains.
Some brands go above and beyond to demonstrate their values by investing in certifications such as Fair Trade Certified, B Corp, and Cruelty Free. While other brands share these strong values, they may not have the capital to invest in these certifications. Regardless of certifications, Bairn chooses partners who care about their people.
B Corp Certified
Certified B Corporation (B Corp) is a verification by B Lab that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability
Cruelty Free
Cruelty-free means that a product and its individual ingredients were never tested on animals during any stage of it's production
Fair Trade Certified
Fair trade is a global movement designed to ensure that farmers in developing countries receive fair prices, and safe working conditions
FSC Certified
FSC certified means that wood or forest product comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits
Leaping Bunny Certified
Leaping Bunny Certified means a brand's products, formulations, and ingredients have been verified completely free of animal testing at every stage of development
Responsible Wool Certified
The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is an independent, voluntary global certification that verifies sheep welfare and land management practices throughout the supply chain
Hand Made
Handmade clothing means garments are constructed primarily through artisanal skill rather than by automated fast-fashion assembly lines
Made in U.S.A
Made in the U.S.A signifies that all or virtually all of the product—including its production and labor, originated in the United States
